
LAHORE ( 2008-09-16 01:13:59 ) :Royal Bank of Scotland RBS (formally AMN-Amro) Twenty-20 Cup cricket tournament will be played from October 4 at four venues and serve as warm for Pakistan team which will take part in four-nation T20 tournament in Toronto later next month.
This was stated by Chief Operating Officer, Pakistan Cricket Board Shafqat Naghmi at unveiling ceremony of event here on Monday. Shahzad Naqvi, COO, RBS, Sultan Rana, PCB Director Domestic, Sarwar Butt, Consumer Head, RBS and captains of 13 participating teams barring Quetta & Lahore.
Naghmi said West Indies team is likely to visit Pakistan in November to play two Tests. Pakistan team will also play three one day internationals against Windies at in Abu Dhabi also in November.
"In my recent inter action with West Indies Cricket Board officials on sidelines of ICC meetings we discussed this aspect (tour). We are optimist they would tour Pakistan. There is dire need we continue playing international cricket and we are doing our best to find such opportunities for our team."
He denied T20 tournament was mere fill in blank as 13 teams will be playing back to back matches. "We can expand its duration to 10 or 15 days but due to team's commitment in Toronto we have to make schedule to finish it in minimum days. We believe short duration will make it more challenging and tough."
Shahzad Naqvi said their sponsorship with fastest version of cricket clearly highlights their long term commitment. "RBS has long heritage towards sports sponsorships across globe and same spirit will be reflective in our initiatives towards cricket in Pakistan."
